Embrace-IT, and IT consultancy firm based in Denmark, sought to modernize its infrastructure by migrating to Azure Cloud. The existing setup at another hosting provider comprised around 20 virtual machines (VMs) with applications scattered across those VMs, creating a limited environment with inadequate QA and production
isolation. The primary objectives were to enhance scalability, performance, and security while reducing operational costs, all without disrupting ongoing operations.

We conducted a thorough assessment of the existing infrastructure, identified dependencies, and developed a phased migration plan to ensure minimal downtime. During execution:

  • We standardized servers on Windows Server 2019 and equipped database servers with SQL Server 2019, integrating them with Embrace-IT’s Azure EntraID (Active Directory) for centralized management and enhanced security.
  • Applications were reorganized into 28 Azure VMs, isolated into three distinct environments: Test, QA, and Production, with an additional Test environment to enhance development processes.
  • Database servers were configured to restrict public access, ensuring only internal traffic from designated API/Web servers via Azure Virtual Networks (VNets) and subnets.
  • Implemented 24/7 monitoring through Azure Monitor with Alerts, Budget Alerts and Cost Dashboards for in-depth cost overview.

Results

Reduction in operational costs

Migration to Azure Cloud achieved a 20% reduction in operational costs while enhancing the infrastructure and improving application performance.

Smooth transition

Business operations continued uninterrupted throughout the migration, maintaining service levels and customer trust.
